We are saddened to inform you that Georges DOREY, founder of the DOREY company, has passed away at the age of 93.

Georges was born on April 1st 1928 in Romans to a family of farmers, he knew very early on that hard work was the only way to progress in life.

At the age of 15, and despite a bright future promised in mechanical studies, he decided to start working to earn a living and contribute to his parents' resources.

In 1949, after two years in the army as a First Class, he joined the SAGEM Company as a shoe machine mechanic in Argenteuil where he participated in the development and construction of a complex sole sewing machine called the "Petits Points" machine.

This achievement will lead him to be noticed by the BATA Company, the largest shoe manufacturer in the world at the time, who hired him to become maintenance manager in their new factory in Casablanca.

It was during this same year that Georges, 21 years old, decided to start building his family life and asked for the hand of Jeanine, 19 years old, who would accompany him throughout all the stages of their lives.

Their life on Moroccan soil will be punctuated by two births, Cathy in 1951 and Jean-Louis in 1953.

It is still in Casablanca in 1956 that Georges creates his own mechanical company DOREY.

His reputation is such that customers and the profession give him the nickname of "MAINS D'OR".

He is very quickly spotted by Mr. Ardiès who proposes him to come back to France to entrust him with the creation of a shoe factory. Georges accepts the challenge and leaves with his wife and children to settle in Bourgoin.

In 1959, Georges set up his company in Romans following the purchase of the BASLY company and this was the beginning of the DOREY Company as it still exists today. Georges was then able to express his talents by collaborating with all the shoe manufacturers in Romans and the surrounding area.

In 1967, the company, which already has 7 employees, collaborates with Italian, German and Spanish machine manufacturers. Not only for sales, but also for the creation and invention of processes still used today based on Georges' ideas.

He will be joined by his son Jean-Louis in 1974 and they will both continue to develop DOREY's extraordinary know-how until they lead the company to employ 40 people in the 1990s.

Since then, thanks to the talent of Georges, but also to all the teams that have accompanied him in this adventure, our machines are sold all over the world, Europe, USA, Japan, Africa, Mexico to customers such as Charles Jourdan, Louis Vuitton, Salomon or even.

This success was crowned in 2014 when he was awarded the medal of Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in recognition of a lifetime of work, determination, opportunities and skills in the industry and on four continents.

He was an example of determination for all of us and will be deeply missed.
